Facebook introduces private groups - useful forum restricted access easy to setup

Facebook is gradually (it would seem waking-up to the fact at last) , that we don't all want all data viewable to everyone and lots of posts, hack the uninterested off, as they waste time seeking posts that are of use to them.

Now whilst you can go and pay for a private social network with a plan with someone like NING who can take it all the way to a 'white-label' solution where you can shrink wrap in your own identity, the general user might just have a number of friends interested in a particular pursuit.

Facebook Groups: this facility now enables you to create a CUSTOM & RESTRICTED ACCESS BASIC GROUP

Instead of Public or the broad brush of everyone/friends of friends/friends only or just youself, this enables you to invite a specific group to access content, chat share and post between just the members of that group. Needless to say with Facebook's sometimes leaky first stabs at security we need to test to destruction but quick and easy to use at first look.

So say you do some research want to share with a few colleagues or friends this is what you do.

We all think we have Klout, Don't We - Are You Socially Influenced or an influencer or Both?

We all hear about the impact of noise on social networks, is it worth being on there? Is it better to wait and see what everybody else does or can you stand out from the crowd?

Klout  is a service for registering your influence and trying to be objective in how it measures the effectiveness of an individual and an organisation's social interactions. Indeed in a world where we all think we have something to say, if we are honest, is anyone listening or is it just all white noise?

The ability to measure is often debated with masses of logs stats and analytics flying automatically at us all, but whether these measures are meaningful is much open to debate.

I have recently registered for this service it feels like they are at least having a go at trying to be realistic and objective about categorising the impact of one's noise. Maybe we don't all really want to hear that we are not influential but some realism with social media in particular would not go amiss.

If your business is serious about social, then at least find ways to make analytics meaningful and multi-variate or you could just be talking to yourself.

Radically anti-analytics and waiting to see what the competitor does take a look at this video by entrepreneur and somewhat controversial .Net Guru (founder of Wine Review Website - with huge influence in US on the retail market) Love him or hate him he has some points to make countering the Analytics with Hard nosed results. Listen and apologies for his colloguial language which is a little colourful care of the FAST Company INFLUENCE PROJECT with Thanks

Gary Vaynerchuck's

how he took the NHL from 500 Twitter followers to 500,000

With Klout you can register for free on your Twitter and Facebook accounts and then take it forward as a business, to me it needs more platforms to be meaningful but even a litmus test on your Facebook and Twitter postings is a start.

In a world where people don't read enough, where video is dominating it maybe that the sonnet written on Twitter is not just a concept but a real art form, in a world where even a paragraph can be too long and a 30 second video conveys just enough.

Take a look in Google at the Fast companys MBA tutorials in 30 seconds, where attention span is short. Video is it the "killer app"

this article is propoably already too long. but if you read the title its probably enough to tempt you to take a further look
